I completely agree with Tony Butler. I am seriously concerned with this plan. and in ansewer to Byron’s question, I believe that mass education about over population is not done because population control through immunization and other “secret” means is easier and cheaper. Trying to convince everyone to have less children etc is not a guaranteed solution and you will always get a certain percentage who just don’t care and who are too selfish to make an effort for change.

Tony Butler, everything you quoted is correct. Human population is absolutely threatening the future of life on this planet – and thereby our future. It took all the way from the dawn of man till the 1830s before the earth reached it’s first 1,000,000,000 people living at one time. Our numbers have exploded since then and now has reached the point of increasing by a billion new people every ten years or so. In every way we are ensuring a worse future for our children than we had. And in the process causing the extinction of many many species, species crafted over millions of years by the fires of evolution. Species that are all part of an intricate chain of life, each dependant upon the others. Obviously I believe that we desperately need to do something about overpopulation.

Having said that let me state my unequivocal opposition to secret sterilizations if indeed such are planned. Why? First, because we have not EVEN TRIED to use mass education first to try get people to see the threat of overpopulation. How many American politicians, for example, can you think of that are in any way discussing this extremely important subject? I can’t think of one. It is the elephant in the living room, the rifle barrel pointed straight at our heads which we pretend is not there. Second, I would be against it because I simply would not be comfortable making such decisions for others without their consent. As the situation becomes more dire the latter concern would probably ebb some if favor of doing the right thing for the future of the planet but first we should at least be making overpopulation a global EDUCATIONAL priority. Maybe if everyone understands the issue most people will make the informed decision to reduce their planned family size.

Just another super rich person who wants kudos for doing something “charitable” with all his TOO MUCH money — while in reality, his ego is working along the same lines as all the other too rich people – to get rid of the pesky population that is fouling the air and eating too much food. If the Big Pharma can’t do it alone, with their trillions, they can get a fix from other Rich People to figure out how to do it faster. Why can’t you do charitable work like FEEDING PEOPLE, giving flocks of birds, cows etc for the poor to raise for food/salary, or BUILDING SCHOOLS? Why does it have to be all this high tech science which is not proven to be safe and indeed sounds on the verge of terrifyingly invasive.

I agree with “rkyobo.”

Why is it that the pharmaceutical/chemical companies are being given so much power? I guess the government really IS that hard up for money (It’s too bad Ross Perot’s idea to stop funding contributions from big companies never came about). It’s too bad Bill Gates isn’t investing his money in non-biased clinical nutrition studies (not in any way controlled or overseen by Big Pharma). Why are people always trying to control what’s natural rather than try to understand it and live with it…? Oh yeah…because the greedy oversized coorporations would make billions of dollars off of it…

Bill Gates also put money into the Svalbard Global Seed Vault project (http://www.croptrust.org/main/arctic.php?itemid=211). The Seed Vault sounds like a great idea, until you look at who funded the project (and therefore, has control over it).

I’d be really skeptical about any funding of this kind. Aren’t there any REAL wealthy philanthropists out there? If there are, can they be a part of a watch dog group?

The WHO has admitted that vaccine manufacturers routinely release potential flu pandemics into the population, by the covert use of vaccinating patients with vaccine containing flu viruses that have never attacked man or have not done so for decades.

It is possible, if one believes in the Tooth Fairy, to accept that the fact the the vaccine manufactures had patented, 12 months before the Swine Flu non-pandemic, a vaccine specifically for that virus was mere coincidence.

Developing a vaccine that can be delivered by nano-particles is obscene. Such a vaccine could and would be used to mass medicate entire populations without their knowledge or consent. Nations could be made sterile, or infected by pandemic plagues. By people like those, quoted below.

This sounds to me like research that should not be funded. The possibilities that could arise from using nanotechnology with vaccines is actually frightening, and conjures up images of terrorists getting control of such technology and using it with viruses like HIV or EBOLA. Pretty scary if you ask me. Also the cooling cloud formation – messing with mother nature doesn’t sound too smart either. I won’t be purchasing any Microsoft products anymore if that’s what Gates is doing with the money.
