In a case of gamers giving back, video game accessory provider Mad Catz has recently pledged its support to Teenage Cancer Trust, which funds and develops teenage cancer units within hospitals that enable young people to be treated together.
But Mad Catz isn’t supporting Teenage Cancer Trust alone, having teamed with rock legend, Roger Daltrey.
Daltrey, lead singer for The Who, has been a long-time supporter of the Teenage Cancer Trust. Daltrey has signed two Mad Catz Rock Band Wireless Wooden Fender Stratocaster Guitar controllers to be auctioned on eBay, with all proceeds of the autographed guitar controllers going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
The auction, which will overlap with the Who’s Super Bowl halftime performance, is set to begin on February 4, 2010, running through February 10, 2010.
"Mad Catz is committed to support Teenage Cancer Trust," said Darren Richardson, president and chief executive officer of Mad Catz. "We are honored to be able to play a role in their important work."
To further support Teenage Cancer Trust, Mad Catz said it is donating 15 percent of all proceeds from the sale of its Rock Band Wireless Wooden Fender Stratocaster Guitar Controllers for Xbox 360 through its online U.K. and U.S. stores between February 3, 2010 and February 10, 2010.
The company’s support will go beyond monetary donations as it has also committed various games and accessories to the charity’s units in the UK, along with a "pledge to continue supporting the important work carried out by Teenage Cancer Trust for time to come."
"Our units provide a sense of normality for young people being treated for cancer and so having the latest games and gaming equipment available is really important to them," said Simon Davies, chief executive of Teenage Cancer Trust.
