The Daily Tell

Good news in trying times.

Last fall, a group of professional golf players teed off in Baltimore for the Constellation Energy Foundation’s Senior Player Championship. A few hours and 18 holes later, four local nonprofits were poised to be $100,000 richer.

The Constellation Energy Foundation recently announced that it has distributed $400,000 among four Maryland-based nonprofits.

Constellation Energy’s chairman, president, and chief executive officer, Mayo Shattuck, says his company is pleased to help Maryland charities who serve the community where his staff lives and works. "The Champions Tour is a visible demonstration of our commitment to the communities in which we do business – particularly in Maryland," he says.

The proceeds of the golf outing will benefit organizations that offer a range of services in Maryland. The First Tee of Baltimore and the Kennedy Krieger Institute work with children, promoting life skills through the game of golf and helping disabled adolescents participate as fully in the community as they can, respectively.

The other benefitting organizations – Union Memorial Hospital and the Baltimore Community Foundation – provide varied assistance to locals of all ages.

Constellation Energy demonstrates a growing trend among national corporations of concentrating giving efforts on a local level; this enables charitable donations to stay up, and also directly gives back to the corporations’ workers.

Officials for the retail electric supplier say Constellation Energy will also continue to support national efforts and movements. Mayo Shattuck explains the company’s foundation is committed to maintaining superior corporate responsibility practices.

Mayo Shattuck says this is "evidenced by our involvement with this tournament, our substantial support for the United Way, our contributions to energy assistance programs and our efforts to grow jobs and protect the environment by investing in conservation and clean, affordable energy."

Notably, the corporate-sponsored golf tournament is a carbon-neutral event, the first tour to earn that distinction. ADNFCR-2191-ID-19553845-ADNFCR
