Face-to-face sales firm Cydcor announced that is has donated 27 boxes of items to U.S. soldiers through Any Soldier, a philanthropy group that helps American armed service members receive packages and letters from home.
Members of the Cydcor Community helped fill the boxes at the company’s Westlake Village, California headquarters, and Any Soldier mailed them off to soldiers serving in the field, along with special letters from loved ones.
"Our troops are making sacrifices for all of us and we felt it was very important to help them as much as we could," said Cydcor chief executive Gary Polson.
Prior to the distribution of the gift boxes, service members sent emails to Any Soldiers detailing the types of items they needed. The group received requests for a range of different items, including newspapers, magazines, food, toiletries and letters.
Cydcor has donated time and resources to a number of area philanthropy groups in recent years, including Casa Pacifica in Camarillo, California and the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. More than 220 company sales representatives have donated more than 200 hours to 15 organizations to date.
"We’re proud to have had the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these soldiers," said Cydcor senior vice president of operations Vera Quinn.
The prolonged conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan have dramatically increased U.S. combat troop deployments over the past decade, and deployments remain high at military bases set up during the Cold War. The U.S. military has total of 1,370,000 soldiers on active duty in 150 countries, according to the latest Department of Defense reckoning. President Obama announced that he will increase Afghanistan deployments to 100,000 in 2010.
