Lincoln Center names new atrium in honor of Rubenstein

In appreciation of the recent donation of a $10 million gift towards the renovation and construction of New York City’s Lincoln Center, David M. Rubenstein has been announced as the namesake for a new visitor’s center and ticketing facility scheduled to open at Lincoln Center Plaza this winter.

The David Rubenstein Atrium, which is scheduled to open on November 24 in order to be a part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the center, will be located across from the Josie Robertson Plaza and the Revson Fountain and serve as an entrance to the 16-acre campus of Lincoln Center.

Visitors to the atrium will be able to purchase discounted tickets for shows at the center that day as well as full-price tickets for all other performances. There will also be free weekly performances, a café, restrooms, and free Wi-Fi access among other features.

"David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center is a unique reflection of civic investment, community engagement and audience development," said Lincoln Center President Reynold Levy. "Thanks to David’s generous gift, we are able to replace a previously underutilized, neglected space with an innovative civic center that will benefit New Yorkers and visitors from around the world. It is completely open to the public."

Rubenstein, who co-founded The Carlyle Group in 1987 and serves as Lincoln Center’s vice chairman, was also the chairman of the Campaign Steering Committee that raised more than $600 million for the redevelopment of the arts center.

"Just as Lincoln Center redefined the Upper West Side, we hope that the atrium will play a significant role in making Lincoln Center more accessible and expanding the opportunities to reach new audiences," Rubenstein said.

The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts hosts more than 400 events annually, including the Lincoln Center Festival, Midsummer Night Swing, and holiday performances of The Nutcracker by the New York City Ballet.
