Clinton Foundation to expand HIV/AIDS treatment in Haiti

Article By Jenna Weiner On October - 6 - 2009

Former President Bill Clinton, on behalf of the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI), has just signed an agreement with Haitian President Rene Preval to expand access to HIV/AIDS care and treatment services to the residents of Haiti.

The Memorandum of Understanding will enable CHAI to provide on-the-ground programmatic and technical support to the country’s government, to strengthen the systems required to deliver primary healthcare services.

"My foundation’s global AIDS work began in the Bahamas, the setting for one of the great success stories in the fight against HIV/AIDS," Clinton said. "I am confident that by using the same approach that is currently helping 2 million people access lifesaving treatment around the world, we can achieve the same success in Haiti. I look forward to working alongside the government of Haiti to strengthen health systems and save more lives."

Haiti, with an HIV prevalence rate of 2.2 percent – the highest in the region – is currently only able to deliver care to half of those in need. In addition, less than half of pregnant women deliver their children in a health facility, increasing the rates of mother-to-child transmission as well as infant mortality.

CHAI will establish an office in Haiti to support the government in strategic planning and resource optimization, focusing on vulnerable populations such as pregnant women and children.

The organization currently operates in four other Caribbean countries, including the Dominican Republic, where CHAI has nearly doubled the coverage of infant HIV testing and has put more than 200 children on treatment.

As of June 2009, Bill Clinton also serves as the United Agents Special Envoy for Haiti.

The Clinton Foundation estimates that there are 33.2 million people living with HIV/AIDS in the world, more than 90 percent of which live in developing countries.ADNFCR-2191-ID-19396097-ADNFCR

View the new documentary “House of Numbers” to see why questions about this must be raised and deeper issues about HIV and AIDS need to be discussed. Lives are at risk, and this is the first documentary with the worlds foremost authorities highlights the scientific problems with HIV testing, science, statistics, and why there is no cure. It sheds new light on a misunderstood phenomena. GO to http://houseofnumbers.com/ to see the trailer.

I watched the trailer dsinla, can you tell me why it features longtime AIDS denialist Mark Gabrish Conlan, Board President of HEAL San Diego? He takes up the first ten seconds telling us how few people are capable of looking at AIDS logically. His first article listed on the “virusmyth” website is entitled “American Medical Association Endorses Genocide.” http://www.virusmyth.com/aids/index/mgconlan.htm
