Recently, law firm Mayer Brown was recognized by a student organization at Yale’s Law School for exhibiting some of the best practices regarding workers and their families.

The Yale Law Women named Mayer Brown in its 2009 Top Ten Family Friendly Firms list. Bert Krueger, chairman for Mayer Brown, noted that the law firm is very proud to be named to the list for another year.

"Mayer Brown is committed to offering innovative programs and policies aimed at providing a workplace where our employees can achieve balance in both their personal and professional lives," Krueger said.

Mayer Brown has a number of policies in place in order to help its employees in managing their work and family lives. For example, the law firm recently increased to paid maternity leave to 18 weeks lawyers working for Mayer Brown in the U.S. The policy includes employees who have adopted children.

Furthermore, the firm has a program aimed at helping new parents who are returning to work after a leave of absence due to a new child arriving. The goal of the program is to help employees balance the needs of their work and family lives.

The firm’s initiatives aren’t limited to births or adoption. Mayer Brown also offers six weeks of paid time off for lawyers at the firm who need to leave in order to serve as primary care givers for elderly relatives.

Along with the recognition from the Yale Law Women, Mayer Brown has been honored by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation by being listed in its Corporate Equality Index for both 2009 and 2010. The foundation gave the firm a perfect 100 percent rating for the way it treats its gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees and clients.
