While many of the social media heavy hitters such as Twitter and Facebook have launched philanthropy-based initiatives, one website has dedicated its social media platform entirely to the cause – all 3,676 of them.
YourCause.com, a social networking website for philanthropic projects and campaigns, allows users to register for free and then choose from a list of 3,676 causes to champion.
The cause then appears on the user’s profile, where they can enlist support from friends, family and their companies using social media strategies. The website then tracks the donations, allowing donors to see their impact.
This week, the website announced the launch of a volunteer section, where organizations can post volunteer openings and users can browse opportunities and track their hours.
"We are very excited to be able to add a volunteer component to our existing cause platform, making our total offering far more robust," said site founder Matt Combs. "Since launch, we have noticed an increasing demand for volunteer solutions and we hope that the YourCause platform will play an active role in fulfilling the needs of corporations and organizations alike."
YourCause also announced the development of "Private Label," a corporate participation program that allows companies to enhance and provide opportunities to volunteer in communities and for charities. It also features involvement tracking tools that analyze payroll deductions, matching gifts, grants and voting, reporting and volunteerism.
"The inclusive platform is of tremendous value, not only to the cause-minded individual, but to the corporations who practice corporate social responsibility and encourage employees to make a positive difference," said Combs.
The website, whose slogan is "Empower Millions to Raise Billions," has currently raised $262,217.09 for 469 of the 1,977 participating charities, with the help of 15,775 users.

YourCause.com is a great site.
There is also another site that is very interesting and focuses on people and organizations helping each other. It is called nxwrld.com and is built on the belief that every person has a great idea and the more we exchange information with each other, see other perspectives and work together – the greater the value we create for ourselves, our organization, our community and the world. It has some interesting content that looks at the world’s issues in a unique way. Users can form groups, organize and drive change.

Very interesting article! Nonprofit social networking is a very new field, but one that has lots of promise. I think what’s important from the reading I’ve done on the issue is that nonprofits should take a view of media not only as a fundraising tool but one to build a future support base by communicating their stories and missions. Even if the money doesn’t flow in immediately, its important to take the long-term view.
On the subject of nonprofit networking sites, I urge everyone to check out the GENESIS Network (www.gnetwork.org). We provide users a fully transparent framework to connect with nonprofits, beneficiaries, and potential investors/volunteers, as well as developing human rights and development projects.
interesting page! why isnt there a bit more such good content ?
http://www.TheHopeProcess.com, a division of IRN Payment Systems, has redefined the process of charitable giving, providing charities with recurring donations from their business supporters. Merchant members who accept credit cards receive a rebate based on their processing. These funds may then be forwarded, in the merchant’s name, to the charity of their choice – making the merchant eligible for a tax deduction. There is no cost to the merchant or to the charity!
Discover Card matches all donations made through the use of their card, and customers who use their Discover Card at a Hope Process merchant will receive 2% cash back from Discover instead of the normal 1%.
Now, The Hope Process has partnered with Karma411, a people to people online campaigns to raise funds and awareness for causes. Truly a win-win!
Interesting site dude Thanks
