The Daily Tell

Good news in trying times.

Care to learn about the fundamentals and potential of microinsurance from the Nobel Prize-winning economist who revolutionized it? Or perhaps a lecture from Bill Gates on "solving the world’s biggest problems" is more appealing?

Thanks to newly launched SocialEarth: Video, both options – and many more – are at viewers’ fingertips.

Capitalizing on the increasingly popular trend of online video as marketing and viral information tools, SocialEarth – a weblog focused on social entrepreneurship – recently launched a video page that features a library of lectures, interviews and informational videos.

The library aggregates videos from around the web talking about social entrepreneurship, often from the industry leaders themselves.

Viewers can browse the library of over 100 videos by ratings or by categories, which include continents of focus as well as issues ranging from green initiatives, health programs, microfinance, poverty and education.

Among the videos are talks by Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel Prize-winning economist whose work on microfinance and microinsurance has fueled an entire industry, and Jacqueline Novogratz, founder and CEO of the Acumen Fund, a nonprofit global venture fund.

"Videos are a powerful method of sharing inspiration, courage and wisdom," said Naiomi Bisram, one of SocialEarth’s co-founders. "With the launch of SocialEarth: Video, we hope to provide a platform which inspires, educates and encourages social entrepreneurs and anyone interested in making a positive difference in our world."

Founded primarily by University of Minnesota alumni, SocialEarth bills itself as an "entrepreneurial and socially minded weblog" that reports on businesses, organizations and initiatives that are giving back to society.

The youthful organization’s utilization of all things technologically advanced even extends into the social media domain – SocialEarth.org is plugged in to all the social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, providing quick links to the weblog’s profiles on a variety of social media websites. The weblog also lets viewers follow the writers and co-founders on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn with the click of a button.

SocialEarth’s announcement continues with the recent trend of using social media and digital technology to engage a new generation of young, tech-savvy philanthropists and social entrepreneurs.ADNFCR-2191-ID-19263169-ADNFCR
