A number of educational organizations are going to benefit from charity given by the Iowa West Foundation, a recent report has stated.
According to the Omaha World-Herald, the foundation recently announced it is giving $4.2 million in grants, which will go to both nonprofit and government entities. In all, 33 organizations will receive grants from the foundation during the second quarter of this year.
"One of the foundation’s top goals is to increase educational attainment, and several grants this round exemplify the foundation’s continued support of grants to meet that goal," Todd Graham, president and CEO of the Iowa West Foundation, told the World-Herald.
According to the report, the Council Bluffs Community School District and Iowa School for the Deaf (ISD) got the largest amount of grant money during this round of giving. Council Bluffs will use the $420,000 in grant money to further its School Administrators Management project.
The $300,000 the ISD got in grant money will be used to create a new science center for the school. Other educational organizations that received grant money included the Joslyn Art Museum of Omaha and the Omaha Children’s Museum.
For the first quarter of this year, the foundation announced grants totaling $4.1 million, which were given to 28 organizations. That included a $250,000 grant to the Betterment Foundation of Avoca, Iowa, which planned on using the funds for the restoration of a historic building and for creating housing for people with special needs.
The foundation will be accepting completed grant applications through Oct. 15 for the fourth quarter of this year. Funds for the organization’s grants come from the Iowa West Racing Association and earnings from investments.
